Huawei has been using US-made operating systems on its devices since several years.

"We have prepared our own operating systems, if it turns out we can no longer use these systems, we will be ready and have our plan B", Huawei mobile chief Richard Yu Chengdong told Die Welt, a Germany-based newspaper.

The firm has been working on an operating system that could replace Android since 2012 when the USA opened an investigation into both ZTE and itself, according to the South China Morning Post. As a matter of fact, media reports were coming in last year, when it was said the company was already "years" into building its OS. "That's our plan B. But of course we prefer to work with the ecosystems of Google and Microsoft", he reportedly said, according to a translation.

The executive has also confirmed that it has prepared its own operating system. Huawei makes its own SoC - the Huawei Kirin, and so is not much dependent on Qualcomm's 'Snapdragon SoC, but same cannot be said of the company's patronage of Google's products and services particularly Google Android OS.

Trade secret thefts, violations of economic sanctions, unethical business dealings with Iran through unofficial subsidiary are some of the charges that have been applied by the US governments against Huawei.

Huawei is cautious of export bans.

In the US, Huawei would have zero chance without the Android OS. After all, they do make their own smartphone processors.

With the U.S. suing Huawei for intellectual property theft and sanctions fraud and Huawei suing the United States back for what it believes to be an unjust federal ban on its products, the company may end up having to jump on its backup OS project. It doesn't, however, have laptop processors, relying mostly on US-made Intel chips. He added that Huawei's customers love Android and Windows and it will always remain its first choices.
