Russian Federation is planning to disconnect its internet systems from the global network - as a test of its cyber-defences.

The formal goal of the new test is to ensure that the Russian internet can function independently in the event that access is cut off by other countries.

A group of major private and state telecoms led by Natalya Kaspersky, co-founder of Kaspersky Lab antivirus maker, have made a decision to conduct the test to disconnect "Runet" from the rest of the internet before April 1 - the deadline for amendments to legislation that would ostensibly allow Russian Federation to protect itself from foreign aggression in the digital sphere. The government wants this ability to ensure they can protect their Internet assets from foreign aggression and be able to route all traffic internally.

Russian Federation has regularly been accused of cyber attacks on other nations and organisations.

The lower house of Russia's parliament has passed the first reading of a bill to create a self-standing Russian segment of the internet.

Jittery Arsenal notch first away win of year
At the heart of the problem is their defensive record - Arsenal remain the only team in the league without an away clean sheet. When asked if his animated displays of emotion could have a negative effect on his players, the Spaniard added: "I am here".

Russian Federation will also establish its own national domain-name-server (DNS) system - a decentralized naming system for computers, services, or other resources connected to the Internet or a private network, which will help to identify computers from which data is being added to the Internet.

The outage will take place before April 1, although an official date has yet to be released, the BBC reports.

Russian Federation is planning to briefly disconnect from cyberspace to test its cyber-defences. ZDNet reports that corporate support for the project is strong but that there are questions and divisions over how best to accomplish it. Russian Federation publicly stated in 2017 that it wishes to be capable of routing 95 percent of its communication through local services by 2020.

The Russian government is providing cash for ISPs to modify their infrastructure so the redirection effort can be properly tested.

In particular, politicians are anxious that Western accusations of Russian hacking could lead to retaliatory cyberattacks and are trying to develop a way to isolate the Russian internet.
