In an email to users, the company said that "all types of ad blockers, bots and fraudulent streaming activities are not permitted".

Spotify is on one of its most important turning points. Ensure that Spotify receives all the money it should (no ad blockers), and prevent Spotify from paying out money that it shouldn't (no fake streams).

The service's new policy now explicitly states that blocking advertisements within Spotify can result in an immediate termination of a user's account. If you try to block ads with a free account anyway, you may risk losing it. Unfortunately, more than 2 million users (2 percent of free Spotify subscribers) were blocking ads with modded apps and accounts previous year, The Verge reports.

Ad blockers are used by Spotify accounts who wish to listen to unlimited music without hearing commercials between songs (Spotify's premium version, a paid monthly service, does not contain ads).

"These acquisitions will meaningfully accelerate our path to becoming the world's leading audio platform, give users around the world access to the best podcast content, and improve the quality of our listening experience as well as enhance the Spotify brand", said the company's CEO and co-founder Daniel Ek. Needless to say, if you use an ad blocker or any other third-party software to circumvent ads, but don't want to get suspended or banned from Spotify, be sure to turn it off or whitelist the site before March 1st. Spotify responded to that by introducing multiple detection techniques previous year.

Last week, the company had announced that it was going to acquiring Anchor and Gimlet Media which produce podcasts such as Reply All and Crimetown respectively. "The format is really evolving and while podcasting is still a relatively small business today, I see incredible growth potential for the space and for Spotify in particular".
