Local media identified the firm as Huawei Technologies Co and said the suspect was the sales director of its office in Poland.

Maciej Wasik, deputy head of Poland's special services, said that the Chinese suspect was a businessman working for a major electronics corporation and the Pole was "known in circles associated with cyberbusiness affairs".

Huawei has been blocked in the USA since 2012 after the House Intelligence Committee report found that using the company's technology could pose a security risk.

TVP said the men have not pleaded guilty and are refusing to give testimony in the case.

The pair are set to remain in custody for at least three months and apparently face up to ten years in prison.

Norway said on Wednesday it was considering whether to join other Western nations in excluding Huawei from building part of the country's new 5G telecoms network. It said the man also went by the Polish first name of Stanislaw and had previously worked at the Chinese consulate in Gdansk.

The Chinese man was identified as Weijing W. and reportedly worked as a director in Poland at Huawei.
