On Saturday, another USA citizen was flown to the University of Nebraska Medical Center after being potentially exposed to Ebola in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

During the Ebola outbreak in 2014, the NBU treated 3 patients, said UNMC on its website.

Ted Cieslak MD, an infectious diseases specialist with Nebraska Medicine, revealed that the person is not ill and is not contagious despite possible exposure.

The physician, whose name is being withheld, isn't showing symptoms of the virus, officials at the medical center in Omaha, Nebraska said.

Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) is a rare and deadly disease most commonly affecting people and nonhuman primates (monkeys, gorillas, and chimpanzees). He will be transferred to a special biocontainment once symptoms develop.

The Ebola virus is seen under a microscope in this image from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The person, who was transported to the U.S.by private plane and transported by auto, will be monitored by federal, state and county public health officials, according to the statement.

The doctor has not yet shown any symptoms, the Nebraska Medical said in a statement.

An American who may have been exposed to Ebola while working in the Democratic Republic of Congo has returned to the United States for monitoring. "Should any symptoms develop, the Nebraska Biocontainment Unit would be activated and the person admitted".

The Democratic Republic of Congo has been plagued by the second-largest Ebola outbreak in history, which began in August and has already infected more than 600 and killed more than 300.

Observation of the individual could last as long as two weeks and is being done in a location that neither the public nor patients can access, the facility said. In 2015, several others were monitored after exposure, but none of them developed the disease. It can also spread through objects contaminated with body fluids from a sick or dead person.
