No militant group immediately took responsibility for the attack.

Earlier today, bomb attack on a police command post had killed at least three people in Chabahar in southeastern region of Iran, state media reported. Middle East Eye could not verify the authenticity of the videos.

An official said that "the terrorist who carried out the attack was killed".

The suicide attacker, driving a vehicle loaded with explosives, drove up to the police headquarters, according to General Mohammad Pakpour of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

In June a year ago, IS militants attacked parliament and the shrine of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the leader of the 1979 Islamic Revolution, killing at least 18 people and wounding more than 50.

While rare, Iran has been targeted by armed groups in recent years. "We express our condolences to the government and the people of Iran and the families of the victims of this attack", the Ministry of External Affairs said.

Tehran often blames the United States, Saudi Arabia and Israel for backing groups to destabilize Iran, something its rivals deny.

"As we've made clear in the past, such crimes won't go unpunished: In 2010, our security services intercepted & captured extremists en route from UAE", Zarif said in what appeared to be a reference to the 2010 capture of Sunni insurgent leader Abdolmalek Rigi.

Chabahar, on Iran's south-eastern coast near the border with Pakistan, is home to a recently built port and is an "economic free zone". Mark my words: "Iran WILL bring terrorists & their masters to justice" Zarif added in the tweet.

It hosts the operation of a joint port project between Iran and India.

Chabahar has a deep-water port on the Gulf of Oman and with Indian assistance Iran has been developing it as a major energy and freight hub between Central Asia and India, bypassing Pakistan.

Such acts of violence will also "boost the Islamic Republic of Iran's resolve to fight terrorism", said Jahangiri, calling for all-out efforts to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
