OneBlood is leading the search for Zainab, a two-year-old girl in South Florida who has an aggressive form of cancer called neuroblastoma.

OneBlood has orchestrated the search for Zainab as she will need numerous blood transfusions in the future.

Donors must be exclusively Pakistani, Indian, or Iranian descent, which means the donor's birth parents must both be 100 percent Pakistani, Indian or Iranian and the blood type must be "O" or "A".

A good donor for Zainab would also be missing the Indian B antigen or she would reject the blood.

Zainab's tumor was found in her stomach two months ago, but doctors believe it may have been growing undetected for nearly ten months. As of now, three donors have been located, one of whom is from the United Kingdom. "This was the worst thing we were expecting".

Zainab's parents learned that she has high-risk neuroblastoma and the doctors think the tumor inside the child's belly may have been growing for at least 10 months.

Zainab suffers from Neuroblastoma, cancer that develops from immature nerve cells around the adrenal glands and most commonly affects children 5 or younger. In about 2 out of 3 cases, the cancer has already spread to the lymph nodes or other parts of the body upon diagnosis. According to the American Cancer Society, there are about 800 new cases of neuroblastoma diagnosed each year.

Are you a match for Zainab's blood type?

Florida-based OneBlood, a nonprofit blood center, has now been conducting an global search to find compatible blood donors.

Less than four percent of the world's population has the blood type Zainab needs to undergo treatment, which includes frequent blood transfusions, Forbes said.

The only people who are likely to be a match for Zainab are people of Pakistani, Indian or Iranian descent, OneBlood said.

According to a press release, more than 1,000 local and nationwide donations have been tested.

The missing antigen "is so rare that honestly this is the first time I've seen it in the 20 years I've been doing this", said OneBlood lab manager Frieda Bright.

"What you're doing to save a human life, my daughter's life, is wonderful", says Mughal. The donors who belong to the rare blood group should coordinate with OneBlood to ensure the other additional compatibility testing is performer before donation.
