Microsoft to kill Edge browser on Windows 10 soon

Report: Windows Lite is Microsoft’s long-awaited answer to Chrome OS Microsoft is reportedly building a Chromium-based browser to replace Edge

But a new browser under development at Microsoft will apparently address this by looking and performing a lot more like the current market leader.

According to Microsoft pundit Brad Sams, there are a considerable number of clues about the streamlined new operating system hidden inside the latest Windows 10 insider build, which is now being beta tested.

So, despite having recently remade a whole new web browser from scratch with Edge several years ago, it looks like they are going to go back to the drawing board and remake another browser all over again.

It's unclear whether a new browser from Microsoft would stick with the Edge branding, or switch to something new entirely. Even the browser that Edge supplanted, the defunct Internet Explorer, was sitting at 9.64 per cent.

An announcement from Microsoft about the new Chromium browser could happen as early as this week, according to a report from The Verge. The new browser id codenamed "Anaheim", and it is also unknown if it will share the same UI or not.

Credit: MicrosoftA Windows Central report Monday claimed Microsoft is replacing the EdgeHTML rendering engine in its Edge browser with Blink, a rendering engine from Chromium, the open source version of Google Chrome.

There are two very interesting rumours about Microsoft circulating the intertubes today, both involving Alphabet's Chrome products. The catch is - it won't be built on the EdgeHTML engine, but rather on Chromium, instead. It seems as Microsoft is finally ready to throw in the towel in the internet browser fight and end its battle with Google Chrome. That move means all the major browsers-Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Opera-will all be using open source software. As to whether the interface will be radically changed or not, we do not know, but we can expect some change on that front as well.

As we've previously told you, Microsoft is already working on Chromium in order to help Google port it over to ARM based Windows machines, such is the power that the world's top browser holds.
