A Drug-Resistant Salmonella Outbreak Has Been Reported in 29 States–Here's What to Know

Salmonella from raw chicken has made 92 people sick across 29 states, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported Wednesday.
Because no common supplier has been found, the CDC can not steer people away from any particular source of raw chicken.
According to the CDC, as of October 17, 92 people have been reported sick from 29 states, including Florida, and 21 people have been hospitalized.
The outbreak strain has been identified in samples taken from raw chicken pet food, raw chicken products, and live chickens.
29 people have been hospitalized from the illness, but no one has died.
"IDPH is working with our partners to investigate this multistate outbreak of Salmonella infections linked to raw chicken products", said IDPH Director Nirav D. Shah, M.D., J.D. In Minnesota, three people have reported getting sick.

"Testing shows that the outbreak strain of salmonella is resistant to multiple antibiotics that may be used to treat people with severe salmonella infection", the CDC said.
