Turkish prosecutors 'find evidence of Jamal Khashoggi killing'

Trump sending Pompeo 'immediately' to meet Saudi king over missing journalist Trump Sending Pompeo to Riyadh for Talks on Missing Journalist

A Turkish diplomatic source earlier said a joint Turkish-Saudi team would search the building - the last place Khashoggi was seen before he vanished on October 2.

Initially welcomed in Washington foreign policy circles as a progressive reformer, the crown prince is increasingly seen as reckless, impetuous and authoritarian, said Gerald Feinstein of the Middle Eastern Institute think tank in Washington.

The kingdom has called the allegations of foul play "baseless" but has offered no evidence the writer left the consulate.

Meanwhile, Arab countries expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia amid growing criticisms that the kingdom has not been fully cooperating with Turkish investigators. "It sounded to me like maybe these could have been rogue killers — who knows", said Trump, speaking to reporters as he headed to visit areas in Georgia and Florida that were ravaged by Hurricane Michael.

The president provided no evidence to back his comment, but said that during a phone call the Saudi King had firmly denied knowing what had happened to Mr Khashoggi.

The interrogation was reportedly supposed to lead to Khashoggi's abduction from Turkey.

Translation: The fierce campaign against Riyadh is expected as is the coordination between its inciting parties, and as there is a need to show the reality of the humanitarian dimension of things, the repercussions of the political targeting of Saudi Arabia will be dire for those who fuel it. The affair has created a diplomatic rift between Saudi Arabia and the West and led to global firms pulling out of a high-profile summit in Riyadh.

Trump calls Khashoggi's disappearance a "terrible situation". The intervention of the king comes soon after some Saudi officials threatened retaliation against any country that took punitive measures against the kingdom. These issues are long-running and stem-at least at a strategic level-from Saudi Arabia's concern over Turkey's push to reassert itself, at the Saudis expense, as the primary geopolitical leader of the Islamic world.

That appeared to be a direct reference to Saudi Arabia, which lashed out at Canada - recalling its ambassador, freezing trade, pulling students out of Canadian schools and even cancelling flights to Toronto - after a tweet from Freeland calling for the immediate release of detained activists, including Samar Badawi, a champion of women's rights and the sister of detained blogger Raif Badawi.

However, it remained unclear what evidence, if any, would remain after almost two weeks since Khashoggi's disappearance.

The disappearance and likely murder of Jamal Khashoggi in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul is the latest episode in an on-again, off-again struggle between Turkey and Saudi Arabia.

"I believe the Trump administration will do something, the president has said that", Rubio said on CNN's State of the Union Sunday morning. At least some of them appear to have high-level connections in the Saudi government.

Australia's foreign minister says she is deeply concerned by the disappearance and suspected murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi. He is listed on an official Saudi website as the head of the forensic medicine department at the interior ministry, and who Turkish officials have named as one of the 15-person group.

CNN reports that the Saudi government is preparing to say Jamal Khashoggi died during an interrogation that went wrong.
