The two suspects had traveled from Russian Federation to London by plane and then visited Salisbury by train on two successive days including the day the attack happened.

The second man accused of being behind the nerve agent poisoning of Sergei Skripal has been identified as a Russian military doctor employed by the GRU, the Russian military intelligence service. British authorities said Skripal and his daughter, Yulia, were sickened by a Soviet-made nerve agent.

"Bellingcat's identification process included multiple open sources, testimony from people familiar with the person, as well as copies of personally identifying documents, including a scanned copy of his passport", the website said.

Bellingcat says he was recruited to the GRU intelligence service during his medical studies and that until September 2014, Mishkin's Moscow home address was the same as the GRU headquarters.

The Bellingcat report says Mishkin, the doctor it said works for Russian intelligence, was born in 1979 in the Archangelsk District in northern Russia and graduated from the elite Military Medical Academies, where he was trained for medical work in the Russian navy.

Bellingcat last month identified Mr Boshirov as a colonel in the Russian military intelligence body GRU, whose real name was Anatoliy Chepiga.

The group said it would provide forensic evidence and other information it used to conclude Petrov was Mishkin on Tuesday.

"In the period 2011-2018, Alexander Mishkin travelled extensively under his new identity".

The Skripals survived after a lengthy hospital stay in intensive care.

Dawn Sturgess, 44, died in June after being exposed to the same weapons-grade nerve agent after it was apparently discarded.

Ruslan Boshirov and Alexander Petrov give an interview to the RT news channel.

The second suspect in the attempted poisoning of a former Russian secret agent has been identified by an investigative website.

"While Aleksandr Mishkin's true persona has an even sparser digital footprint than Anatoly Chepiga's, Bellingcat has been able to establish certain key facts from his background", the October 8 report said.

Both suspects appeared on Russian state TV last month, proclaiming their innocence.

The prosecutors said at the time the two were undercover GRU officers.
