This could cause the auto to stall, which could increase the risk of a crash when driving at high speeds.

TOKYO-Toyota Motor Corp. says it has issued a recall for 2.43 million (U.S.) hybrid vehicles in Japan and elsewhere for potential problems with stalling.

Toyota is now in the process of recalling around 2.4 million cars worldwide over fears that a faulty component could cause some vehicles to stall without warning.

Vehicles sold in Japan, America, Europe, China, Africa, and other regions are also affected. In the case of Toyota's latest recall, some of the hybrids mentioned have undergone two prior recalls to fix related issues.

Auris, Prius and Prius+ hybrid cars with the 1.8-litre engine, built between October 2008 and November 2014, are affected.

A failsafe mode created to engage in the event of a hybrid system fault may not kick in because of a software glitch, causing the vehicle to stall, according to a company statement.

If a vehicle was to stall at high speed, this could increase the chances of a auto crash occurring.

After reaching out to the auto giant, Toyota told us that customers affected by the recall will be contacted directly to alert them of the problem.

Should this occur, the auto could lose power and stall, although functions such as the power steering, brakes and lights would still work.

As the world's best-selling auto brand, our in-depth survey also covers the reliability of Toyota cars.

Toyota said it had received three reports in Japan related to the problem by the end of September and reported them to the transport ministry.

A Toyota UK spokesman said owners of the affected vehicles would be notified.

The Prius and Prius V vehicles may contain a software fault in their ECU.
