A Greek beach has been turned into an arachnophobe's worst nightmare, as spiders have covered it in a web some 300 metres long.

A 1,000-foot field of spiderweb has sprung up in western Greece in the town of Aitoliko.

Most people encounter spider webs one at a time, maybe a handful or so in a single day.

High temperatures have sparked a sexual frenzy among the spiders, causing them to build a vast network of webs alongside the lagoon in Greece.

Molecular biologist Maria Chatzaki from the Democritus University of Thrace in Greece explained, "These spiders are not risky for humans and will not cause any damage to the area's flora".

The thick, fuzzy covering comes from Tetragnatha spiders, a type of spider that frequents tropical climates, as Maria Chatzaki, a biology professor at Greece's Democritus University of Thrace, told Newsit.

Solanke Out Of Liverpool, Southampton Fixture
Last weekend, Solanke was on target for Liverpool U23s in their 3-0 rout of Swansea City in the Premier League 2, which was his only appearance for The Reds teams this term.

Tetragnatha extensa are a species in the Tetragnatha genus believed responsible for this nightmare.

The high temperatures in this area are the flawless conditions for these spiders to breed.

"The spiders are taking advantage of these conditions, and are having a kind of a party".

Chatzaki noted that it was a seasonal phenomenon that occurred mainly at the end of the summer and early autumn and arose from a "population explosion".

According to Chatzaki, residents and tourists should not worry about the webs for long, the spiders will die soon.
