Trump Blasts Kavanaugh Accuser, Says His Supreme Court Nominee Is ‘Under Assault’

Ford Willing to Testify With Restrictions Next Thursday How it looks: Optics key in fight over Kavanaugh hearing

President Trump on Friday pointedly questioned the credibility of the woman who has accused Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh of sexual assault when they were teenagers, contending she would have reported the attack to law enforcement at the time if it were as bad as she has said.

Dr. Ford has stated that she's willing to testify in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee if required, and while Republicans have cautiously said they want that to happen... they're also pressing to move forward with Kavanaugh's SCOTUS confirmation vote.

Ford, a professor of psychology at Palo Alto University in California, has accused Kavanaugh of drunkenly pinning her to a bed, groping her, and trying to stifle her screams at a high school party in the early 1980s.

After almost a week of unexpected restraint, President Trump finally went after the woman who has accused his Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault. "You don't want her to be right, because it's a disgusting situation".

Ford said that Kavanaugh and his male friend, who were reportedly drunk, laughed.

He also repeated a question he asked on Fox News Thursday night in Las Vegas: "The radical left lawyers want the Federal Bureau of Investigation to get involved NOW". The alleged assault took place when Ford was 15 and Kavanaugh was 17; they were in high school then.

No decisions have been made on if Ford's requests will be honored.

"When there was an opportunity to see this court brought back within its boundaries according to the Constitution, that's why they got behind President Trump", the FRC president added.

As the Senate Judiciary Committee works to schedule public hearings on the accusation next week, it's not yet clear if Ford will testify.

But Ford said Monday is impossible for her, offering instead to testify later in the week under certain conditions. He denies the allegation.

She told the newspaper that he covered her mouth when she tried to scream for help. "This is a completely false allegation". Former classmate Jenny Yerrick Martin said she knew Ford from seventh to ninth grades when they both attended Holton.

Mr McCauley was then winched down out of the helicopter into the water and had to swim to the dinghy and climb on board. However, Mr Macdonald did not even know it was a shark attack until after he had left the scene.

Ford told the Washington Post that she didn't tell anyone about her alleged assault at the time, anxious that she might get in trouble for being at a party with underage drinking.

The Senate panel must approve Kavanaugh's confirmation before a full vote by the Senate, where Republicans hold a 51-49 majority.

"I think he's the right choice and what the Democrats have pulled, and the dirty tricks, is just appalling", a nine-time attendee of the annual summit, Russ Consentino of Bucks County, told ABC News Friday.

The tweet was Trump's strongest indication of support for Brett Kavanaugh yet, after the president had spent much of the week vowing he would listen respectfully to Ford's allegations.

McConnell has wanted to whisk Kavanaugh to confirmation before the court's new term starts October 1 - and before November's elections.

Ford's team has sought guarantees of her safety because of death threats.

Ford went public with her accusation over the weekend in a Washington Post interview and said Monday through her lawyer that she was ready to testify.

Republican panel member Lindsey Graham said on Twitter that requiring an FBI investigation of a 36-year-old allegation "is not about finding the truth, but delaying the process till after the midterm elections". Nonetheless, they also are inclined to believe he will, in the end, be confirmed: Just 11 percent predict he won't; 45 percent say he will. As CBS late-night star Stephen Colbert noted last night, that demand furthered the U.S. Senate's reputation for not caring what abused women have to say about Supreme Court nominees. Facts don't matter. I go through this with them every single day in D.C. The Judiciary Committee offered to send its investigators out to talk privately with Ford at a place where she's comfortable.

"Since the moment I first heard the allegation", he said in a statement on Thursday, "I have categorically and unequivocally denied it".

Katz reiterated that Ford would like the FBI to investigate before her testimony. Be sure to let us know in the comments section, below. "This strikes us as simply a check-the-box exercise in a rush to confirm Judge Kavanaugh".
