A multitude of factors contributed to the win, which made Gillum the first black nominee for governor in Florida history.
She also controversially said Tuesday night that the race was a contest "between a patriot and a protester".
In an interview with Politico, Mr Gillum said Florida would be "looking for a governor that was going to bring us together, not divide us".
It's a complete 180 from the man who helped propel Ron DeSantis to the Republican nomination: the president himself, whose policies DeSantis has fully embraced. Sanders (I-VT) said of Gillum's victory. DeSantis sailed to victory in the Republican primary, defeating a longtime favorite of the GOP establishment with a campaign based largely around President Donald Trump. However, lobbyist Adam Corey, who appears to be at the center of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, was a longtime Gillum friend and ally until Gillum cut ties with him previous year, the Tallahassee Democrat reported. I assume that Gillum has the African-American vote in his pocket and that, with the chance to elect an African-American governor and with a hot Senate race to vote in, Black turnout will be substantial with or without the outrage being feigned over DeSantis' comment.
The DeSantis Campaign put out a statement saying, "Ron DeSantis was obviously talking about Florida not making the wrong decision to embrace the socialist policies that Andrew Gillum espouses..."

And in a close race - Gillum finished with 34.3 percent of the vote to 31.3 percent for Graham in unofficial results - every one of the factors had to combine to produce the victory. The rise of the progressive movement and its ability to churn out voters who are not part of the narrow paradigm that D.C. consultants make millions perpetuating is perhaps the most important development in American politics post-Trump.
