Thursday's quake could be felt on Bali, another popular Indonesian resort island west of Lombok.

A strong natural disaster with a magnitude of 6.2 hit the Indonesian island of Lombok island on Thursday, causing some buildings to collapse, according to witnesses and the Southeast Asian nation's meteorology and geophysics agency.

Facebook users writing the Indonesian word "selamat"-which roughly translates to "unhurt" or "survive"- when referring to the 7.0-magnitude quake reported seeing confetti and balloons when they were writing messages of sympathy to their friends and family on social media".

Lombok was hit a week earlier by a 6.4 quake that killed 16 people.

A 5.9 magnitude natural disaster hit the Indonesian island of Lombok Thursday, according to the United States Geological Survey, an area already struggling to recover from a massive quake that hit Sunday.

Meanwhile the death toll from the powerful quake continues to rise, with 347 people now reported dead, according to CNN.

The government says more than 1400 people were injured and more than 156,000 displaced.

Indonesia is prone to earthquakes because of its location on the "Ring of Fire", an arc of volcanoes and fault lines in the Pacific Basin.
