NY is kicking Spectrum out of the state

NYS moves to kick Charter Communications out of state State regulators move to order Charter out of New York
Troy Mann | 28 July, 2018, 16:29

Friday's vote, if it survives any legal challenges that are filed, would bar Charter from operating in NY.

The problems that led to today's move allegedly began in 2016, when the state approved Charter's merger with Time Warner Cable.

The Public Service Commission's order requires the company to maintain its service throughout the state while planning for a transition to a new company.

Charter has 30 days to contest the order, which the company said it will do.

"In the weeks leading up to an election, rhetoric often becomes politically charged".

Russell continued: "Our 11,000 diverse and locally based workers, who serve millions of customers in the state every day, remain focused on delivering faster and better broadband to more New Yorkers, as we promised". Regulators said that Spectrum, the largest cable provider in ny, failed to comply with several conditions mandated when the state approved Charter's 2016 merger with Time Warner Cable, Inc.

Now, if this discovery pans out, it's clear that some large pockets of liquid water still exist on or near the Martian surface. A team of scientists announced today that they had found a large body of liquid water beneath the southern ice caps of Mars .

Charter has repeatedly failed to meet deadlines for broadband expansions that were required in exchange for merger approval, state officials said.

That pledge was one of the "most critical" conditions attached to the merger approval, the commission argued in an order posted online Friday.

But this is the culmination of months of complaints from the state, including a statement from the commission last week that accused the company of " gaslighting": Charter has continually failed to meet its commitments to the state, including its obligation to timely extend its high-speed broadband network to 145,000 unserved and underserved homes and businesses.

He added that the company tried to "mislead the public" by saying it had provided new service to 12,467 addresses in New York City, when in fact those households already had service. As such, the commission concludes that it can no longer allow the company to operate in NY in good faith.

In a hearing, the New York State Public Service Commission announced their plans null the merger between Charter Communications and Time Warner Cable, which received federal approval in 2016. The company said it has extended its advanced broadband network to more than 86,000 NY homes and businesses since the merger agreement and is focused on continuing that work. Mr. Wu previously worked as the NY attorney general's senior enforcement counsel and battled Charter over an investigation into internet speeds.

If you live in NY, what's your take on this decision?
