The attacker, who has been arrested, carried out the attack as the bus was headed toward Travemuende, a popular beach near the city of Luebeck, local newspaper Luebecker Nachrichten reported.

A police spokesman told regional broadcaster NDR that nobody had been injured in the attack.

At least 14 people have been wounded, two of them seriously, in a knife attack on a bus in Germany.

"There is now a major police deployment in Luebeck", the force wrote on Twitter.

Police tweeted that 10 people were hurt.
