Zuckerberg was asked by ReCode's Kara Swisher in a July 18 interview if he would take down conspiracy-theory content such as what is promulgated by the Infowars website.
Mr Zuckerberg raised the issue of Holocaust denial while defending the social media and publishing company's refusal to ban hoaxes and other misinformation.
Zuckberg said that, although he finds Holocaust denialism deeply offensive, it's not Facebook's job to prevent anyone from saying something false, but rather to combat fake news and misinformation that's spread maliciously. "I just think, as abhorrent as some of those examples are, I think the reality is also that I get things wrong when I speak publicly", he said prophetically.
[Interviewer interjects:] In the case of the Holocaust deniers, they might be, but go ahead.
But he said, 'I find that deeply offensive.
Earlier this month, India's government rebuked the Facebook-owned messaging service WhatsApp for allowing rumors and false reports to circulate on its service after a series of deadly attacks on victims mistakenly accused of kidnapping children, according to Dow Jones.
They were not, he said, "intentionally" getting their facts wrong.
