Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer says the indictments are "further proof of what everyone but the president seems to understand: President Putin is an adversary who interfered in our elections to help President Trump win".

On Friday's show, Fox News Contributor Charles Hurt joined Tom Shillue to react to the breaking news.

Earlier Mr Trump ha attended Mrs May's Chequers meeting and speaking at the end of the press conference the US President described Germany's reliance on Russian Federation as "terrible" and "horrific".

Referring to an ongoing investigation into ties between his election campaign and Russian Federation, he decried a "rigged witch-hunt" that was hurting the United States and its relationship with Russian Federation.

But just days out from a high-stakes meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki, the mercurial United States leader threatened to throw the transatlantic alliance into disarray.

Trump and Putin are expected to hit on a lot of familiar themes in their summit, including European security, Middle East tension, and nuclear weapons control.

The US has passed a series of sanctions against Russian Federation since 2014 over its annexation of Crimea from Ukraine and alleged meddling in the US elections, which it denies.

Sen. John McCain said Friday that the U.S. -Russia summit in Helsinki "should not move forward" unless President Trump is willing to hold Russian Federation accountable for political meddling.

Speaking in Britain before the indictments were unveiled, Trump said he would ask Putin about the allegations of election meddling.

Trump has been pushing for the 29 allied nations that make up North Atlantic Treaty Organisation to speed up their commitment to increasing defence spending to two per cent of GDP - a goal set in 2014 with a 10-year deadline.

Trudeau called the military spending target - two per cent of GDP, agreed to by all North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies at the 2014 summit in Wales - "an easy shorthand" but also a "limited tool" to measure a country's commitment to the alliance.

The Kremlin has denied that the Russian state interfered in the US election. So threatening the integrity of North Atlantic Treaty Organisation plays very well into the hands of Russia's President Vladimir Putin, with whom Trump will meet on Monday.

We now know, however, that he had been told that Russian Federation was trying to help his father's campaign and may have dirt on Hillary Clinton in a private email exchange just the month before.

It also comes three days before Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin meet in Finland.

"It could open up new negotiations on a lower level that could actually achieve something", Raitasalo said.

"In most cases, a couple of hours between heads of states that haven't seen each other for a time and discussed things properly - you can't achieve much in several hours".

"He was in a good mood, he said Europe was a continent he appreciated", Luxembourg's Prime Minister Xavier Bettel told reporters.
