"The products affected contain a particularly risky strain of Listeria and are being recalled as a precautionary measure to ensure consumers are protected", acting Food and Standards Australia and New Zealand chief executive Peter May said Monday evening.

The company's statement was circulated on social media and although there were serious concerns about food safety, many social media users wanted to know, "who is buying frozen rice".

"The mix is uncooked and frozen so requires cooking before consumption".

The Daily Mail says that a total of more than 50 frozen products have now been withdrawn from supermarkets across the UK.

Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) has issued a recall for a range of frozen vegetables that were sourced from Greenyard Frozen Belgium NV, which may contain the pathogen.

So there were definitely people out there out there throwing bags of frozen rice into their trollies and saying thank you to the retailer for making their life easier.

Frozen corn and possibly other frozen vegetables are the likely source of an outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes that has killed at least nine people in Europe. A listeria outbreak has hit five countries in the last three years - Austria, Denmark, Sweden, Finland and the United Kingdom.

According to Business Insider, this is the only Woolworths product believed to be affected.

The full list of foods affected by the bacteria have now been revealed, and consumers should be trying their best to avoid them.

Customers who have purchased the product, should return the product to their local store for a full refund.

Symptoms could include headache, fever, tiredness and aches and pains.

The health department has been unable to determine if the patient had consumed any of the recalled frozen vegetable products. Listeria can invade the central nervous system and cause meningitis and even brain infection.

The food chain reportedly said its food products are independently tested at random. Thorough cooking ensures that the product is safe.
