Pharmacies in 22 countries including Germany, Norway, Finland, Sweden, Hungary, the Netherlands, Austria, Ireland, Bulgaria, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, France, Poland, Croatia, Lithuania, Greece, Canada, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bahrain and Malta have been warned and asked to recall products containing Valsartan as a precaution.

The medications contain the ingredient "valsartan" which was found in some products to have an impurity called N-Nitrosodimethylamine, a potential human carcinogen that could cause cancer with long-term exposure.

The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) issued a circular ordering the recall of some antihypertensive medicines containing the active ingredient Valsartan, manufactured by Chinese company Zhejiang Huahai Pharmaceutical after the detection of impurities in the active ingredient.

There is no acute health threat to patients using the affected medication containing valsartan.

Free agent guard Isaiah Thomas has agreed to a one-year, $2 million deal with the Denver Nuggets , league sources told ESPN . Thomas has been dealing with the lingering effects from right hip surgery he underwent in 2017, as well as a torn labrum.

The Ministry has affirmed that it is always in close coordination and communication with the FDA and the European and Australian Medicines agencies to get any updates and take any necessary actions as soon as possible to protect the health of patients and people in the country. As a precaution, the review will also consider whether other valsartan medicines may be affected.

You may be given a different valsartan medicine (or an alternative treatment) when you go for your next prescription. Patients that have had a recent heart attack or heart failure also use these drugs. Pharmacies are therefore instructed to remove the affected medications from their stock and quarantine them.

EMA and United Kingdom regulators are working together to investigate the extent of the issues and any possible impact for patients.
