Fiat employees in Italy plan to hold a strike after the Agnelli family, which owns the carmaker, paid Portuguese soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo a reported $130 million to leave Spain's Real Madrid and join Italy's Juventus.

A small union has called a strike at Fiat Chrysler's Melfi plant in Italy after its main investor, the Agnelli family, chose to pay 100 million euros to land Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus.

The Agnelli family, which has owned Turin-based Juventus for more than 90 years, controls Ferrari and Fiat Chrysler through its holding company, Exor, which owns 64 per cent of Juventus.

It said the firm needed to guarantee the future of thousands of people, "rather than enriching only one".

However, football finance expert Rob Wilson, of Sheffield Hallam University, said Juventus should earn more than enough money from Ronaldo to cover the transfer fee and his wages.

But he said the officer considered it "an unfortunate incident" and felt he was not "given a fair shake". As for Trybus, he was released on bond and has a court appearance scheduled on August 1.

The action, which does not include all workers at the production plant, will take place from Sunday, July 15, to Tuesday, July 17.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) workers have announced that they will strike against the signing of footballer Cristiano Ronaldo for Juventus Football Club, which is supported by Exor, the same investor as the auto maker.

Speaking to calciomercato.it, former Juventus and Italy defender Alessio Tacchinardi analyses what may be the effect of the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo at Juventus on the Serie A.

The 23-year-old also started all three of Serbia's group stage games at this summers World Cup finals and his potential has caught the attention of some top clubs with Manchester United and Real Madrid among those to have expressed an interest in signing Milinkovic-Savic.

The strike, however, will likely have a nominal impact - the factory is one of seven plants in Italy and USB doesn't represent all of the workers there.
