While Trump on Friday is having lunch with Prime Minister Theresa May at her Chequers country estate or sipping tea with Queen Elizabeth II at Windsor Castle, tens of thousands of demonstrators - maybe more - are planning to gather in London's Trafalgar Square to protest the president and his policies.

Mass protests are expected to greet Donald Trump as he arrives for his first visit to Britain as president. Trump was largely steering clear of London, where protests are planned and where organizers had permission to fly a blimp over Parliament portraying the president as an orange crying baby.

President Trump is scheduled to meet British Prime Minister Theresa May, who wants a post-Brexit trade deal, days after President Trump said the United Kingdom was in "turmoil".

Referring to the separation of undocumented parents and children, they wrote: "It is with great sadness that we have followed reports of events in recent months which have seen families ripped apart and children placed in cages".

During a press conference in Brussels after the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit, Mr. Trump appeared to criticize Ms.

Gardner, who works with refugees as part of her doctoral research at the London School of Economics, said Trump's speeches about refugees and immigrants are "a very unsafe line of rhetoric to be normalized".

A number of protests have been planned for the president's stay in the country, with the largest march due to be held in London on Friday. "I don't know (if) that is what they voted for", he added.

Trump's trip is part of a working visit and not a state one.

Mr Khan defended the blimp baby: "There are two issues; one is the freedom to protest and the right to free speech and the second is our issues on President Trump".

Lance Price, who served as former Prime Minister Tony Blair's media adviser, told the Independent that no matter what the American convoy contends, the fact that Donald Trump is avoiding London points to a moral victory for the protesters.

While the visit has not been accorded the formal State Visit grandeur, May will seek to make up for it with a gala black-tie dinner hosted by her for around 100 guests in the spectacular setting of Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire.

The state visit was never actually scheduled - there has been fierce opposition to it in many quarters of Britain - and this trip is part of a working visit instead, meaning among other things that Mr. Trump will overnight at Winfield House, the USA ambassador's handsome residence near Regents Park, rather than at Buckingham Palace or Windsor Castle as a guest of the queen.

Mr Sprinks, who goes by the stage name Sprinkles, added: "Our vocalist, Freak, had a bit of a thing about Trump".

Both the leaders are expected to hold talks on the military alliance between the two nations.

After arriving at Bleneim Palace, Trump was met by the prime minister and her husband, Philip.

After London, he will travel to Scotland and then onto Helsinki to meet with Russian president Vladimir Putin.

This will be the US President's first official visit to the UK.

Eric Trump is playing golf at the Trump International Golf Links at Menie, Aberdeenshire, and also plans to visit Trump Turnberry, near Girvan, South Ayrshire.
