That's right all plastic straws will be completely eliminated from Starbucks stores very soon, the company wants to get rid of them all by the year 2020.

The global coffee giant said that it plans to eliminate all single-use plastic straws by 2020, and will instead cap cold drinks with lids that do not require the use of a straw.

Customers who prefer or need a straw can request one, which will be made of alternative materials, the release said. Its beverages will feature recyclable lids featuring a raised lip, like those pictured here. The strawless lid rollout will hit Seattle and Vancouver first, starting this fall, followed by "phased rollouts" in the USA and Canada during fiscal year 2019 and a global rollout beginning in Europe.

Starbucks will start the transition away from plastic straws in Seattle and in Vancouver in the fall, before launching a phased rollout in the U.S.in its fiscal 2019. Last week, Seattle became the latest city to ban plastic utensils and straws.

Starbucks will begin offering "strawless lids" on iced coffee, tea and espresso drinks.

Starbucks announced Monday that it will stop using plastic straws at all of its stores worldwide. Straws add up to about 2,000 tons of the almost 9 million tons of plastic waste that ends up in waters around the globe each year. A global rollout will follow, starting in Europe where the strawless lids will arrive in select stores in France, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. "We hope others will follow in [Starbucks'] footsteps".
