Today, the company said it had discovered a bug that, from May 29 to June 5, accidentally unblocked more than 800,000 people that Facebook and Messenger users had blocked.

For the second time in less than a month, Facebook is having to alert users that their accounts may have been negatively impacted because of a bug.

Facebook says the bug didn't re-add friends who you've unfriended, and the vast majority (83 percent) of people affected by the bug only had a single person temporarily unblocked.

A bug affecting 800,000 Facebook users briefly unblocked people they had barred from contacting them, the company revealed Monday.

The software bug did not restore any severed friend connections at the social network, but someone who was blocked could have been able to reach out to a blocker on Messenger, according to Facebook. By Facebook's own admission: "There are many reasons why people block another person on Facebook".

Maryland newspaper says it received threats after shooting
The White House did not immediately respond Monday to a request for comment. "It's just as important as any other tragedy". The five killed were Rob Hiaasen , 59; Wendi Winters , 65; Rebecca Smith , 34; Gerald Fischman , 61; and John McNamara .

Blocking someone on Facebook automatically unfriends them and prevents them from such actions as adding you as friend, sending you a message on Messenger, and seeing posts on your profile. "Other reasons are more serious like harassment or bullying", she said.

Rather than wait for some enterprising third-party security researcher to unearth the bug, Facebook's chief privacy officer, Erin Egan, took a swig from the mea culpa chalice.

"We know that the ability to block someone is important - and we'd like to apologize and explain what happened", Egan wrote.

Apparently, the bug did not cause unblocked users to become friend with the users who had blocked them even if they were friends before getting blocked.
