Under the plans, the NHS budget, which now stands at £114 billion, will increase by an average of 3.4 percent a year.

Responding to the Prime Minister's announcement the three health think thanks have described it as "worrying" and "not quite all it seems" as it doesn't include any mention of funding for public health programmes, social care, or things like hospital buildings and staff training.

The National Health Service is to get an extra £20bn per year.

Britain will have more money to spend on its health service when it leaves the European Union, even as it continues to make payments to the bloc, Prime Minister Theresa May said on Monday.

That's going to be funded through a range of ways, but one of them is what the British people voted for.

The funding is supposed to come in part from a much debated "Brexit dividend", which the government argued would bring £9 billion into the struggling health services.

Mr Djanogly also raised concerns about whether debt levels would rise to support the extra funds and called for more detail on the tax increases.

But she that "we as a country will contribute a bit more" - meaning ministers will have to raise taxes or borrow more to find the money.

Campaigners have said Prime Minister Theresa May's pledge to boost NHS coffers by £20 billion a year will be insufficient to meet patients' needs, following years of underfunding.

In what is her biggest and boldest policy announcement since her election disaster past year, the PM announced the extra money for the NHS to mark its 70th birthday.

The announcement of more cash for the NHS, a regular issue at elections, comes after a row in parliament over Brexit highlighted the fragility of May's minority government.

Niall Dickson, chief executive of the NHS Confederation, welcomed the "sizeable investment" but said it "falls some way short" of the 4% annual rises experts had said was needed.

The government has yet to confirm a plan for finding up to £11bn of the money promised yesterday, with the PM telling Swarbrick that tax rises are on the way in the autumn budget. This multi-year settlement provides the funding we need to shape a long-term plan for key improvements in cancer, mental health and other critical services.

In fact, hundreds of doctors and nurses have signed an open letter to May and her Cabinet arguing the funding increase is not enough. But it's right that we must recognise the impact social care has on the NHS, and the way in which these work together.

"The devil is in the detail and the Tories have form of cutting other budgets when they are passing on consequentials which leaves the Scottish Government less than the health consequentials from the UK Government", she said.

The premier said that by the financial year 2023-2024, an extra £20 billion ($26.5 billion, 23 billion euros) a year would be going into the NHS.

"I'll be making sure we keep the pressure on the SNP to deliver for Scotland and deliver for our NHS". We certainly haven't seen that.
