According to local media, the attack took place in the downtown Drottninggatan area.

Police said there was no cause for public alarm.

Witnesses told newspaper Aftonbladet they heard what sounded like 15 to 20 shots about 6:15 p.m.in the city center.

No motive for the shooting was given but police said "extensive investigation work" had begun as they called on anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
