According to a report in the Daily Mail, Roman Abramovich has rejected a bid from Jim Ratcliffe, Britain's richest man, to purchase Chelsea Football Club.

Jim Ratcliffe, the billionaire boss of multinational petrochemicals giant Ineos and a season-ticket holder at Stamford Bridge, expressed an interest in buying the club amid speculation the Russian oligarch could be prepared to sell.

In recent weeks, Abramovich has experienced problems with gaining a working visa for the United Kingdom and has also made a decision to postpone plans to build a new stadium.

All this has spread rumors around the globe that Chelsea football club would be up for sale as owner Roman Abramovich plans not to take forward any of the club's overhead costs.

Ratcliffe was reported to be worth £21billion in the Sunday Times Rich List last month.

Chelsea's future has become uncertain since Abramovich ran into UK visa problems, which caused him to miss Chelsea's FA Cup final victory over Manchester United last month.

Redmond O'Neal, son of Farrah Fawcett, charged with attempted murder
O'Neal's parents are Ryan O'Neal and the late Fawcett, who were together from 1979 to 1997 and 2001 until her death in 2009. In a jailhouse interview with Radar Online last month, O'Neal blamed his father for his problems.

Ratcliffe, who grew up in a council house in Failsworth - a small town between Manchester and Oldham - was asked in a recent interview about his education and replied: 'I just played football, really.

Abramovich has had problems with a United Kingdom visa and also shelved the plans for an expansion of Stamford Bridge recently.

Ineos already owns Swiss side Lausanne-Sport.

Ratcliffe's plans to buy Chelsea might not see the light of the day as his offer was quickly discarded, with the Chelsea owner stating he had no intention to sell the club.

A spokesman for Ineos told Press Association Sport in response to the Mail story: "We can't comment on market rumour or speculation".
