Macron made the remarks against U.S. President Donald Trump as he spoke with Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau did not wait for the USA president to kick off the meeting in La Malbaie, Quebec.

"Maybe, but nobody is forever", he told a news conference flanked by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

In another tweet, Trump said he's "looking forward to seeing" Macron and Trudeau and accused them of "charging the USA massive tariffs and create non-monetary barriers".

Throughout the escalation in rhetoric, Trudeau slammed Trump's tariffs in several media appearances, calling the decision "totally unacceptable" and "insulting". "Our tariffs are in response to his of 270 per cent on dairy!"

President Trump, who left the summit earlier than scheduled, demanded that the G7 countries reduce their trade barriers.

He said he suggested cutting all of the tariffs, duties and even government subsidies among the G7 countries, and said other leaders would "go back to the drawing board and check it out". "As Canadians we are polite, we're reasonable, but we also will not be pushed around".

Trump agreed to sign the statement when at the summit just like everyone else. "We focus on other formats", TASS quoted Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov as saying. But Trudeau, whose nation was among those singled out by Trump, pushed back and said he would not hesitate to retaliate against his neighbor to the south.

"We stand by the commitments made in the G7 communique", a senior United Kingdom government source said.

"We had a very direct and open discussion and I saw the willingness on all the sides to find agreement and have a win-win approach for our people, our workers and our middle classes". At one point, the agreement states, "we acknowledge that free, fair and mutually beneficial trade and investment, while creating reciprocal benefits, are key engines for growth and job creation".

The Trump administration imposed aluminum and steel tariffs on the other G-7 members - the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, France, Canada and Japan - ratcheting up tensions between the USA and its allies in the run-up to the summit.

Briefing reporters immediately before cutting short his stay at the conference in Quebec and heading to Singapore for a nuclear summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, Mr Trump firmly denied the G-7 meeting had been contentious.
