Adams was on a flight from Fort Lauderdale to Atlanta to catch a connecting flight to Mississippi's capital city.

USA surgeon general Dr. Jerome Adams helped during a medical emergency on his Delta Air Lines flight, Wednesday, to Jackson, Mississippi. He said the person is now doing well. Delta Airlines thanked the Surgeon General for his help in a statement and in a tweet.

It's unclear what medical issue the passenger was suffering from.

The Surgeon General tweeted about his experience, saying "They asked if there was a Doctor on board to help with a medical emergency", he wrote. Fellow Twitter users also flooded his tweet with positive comments, saying he was in the right place at the right time. Adams responded and the patient eventually regained consciousness, but Adams determined the passenger needed to go to a local hospital and the plane returned to the gate.

The surgeon general oversees the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, a group of more than 6,700 uniformed officer public health professionals.

Adams was flying to Jackson as he was scheduled to make a visit at the University of Mississippi Medical Center on Thursday to carry on discussions on what all steps the federal government and administration are taking to deal with opioid crisis.

Adams was sworn into office by Vice President Mike Pence in September 2017.
