Each year, the NCAA honors selected NCAA Division I sports teams by publicly recognizing their latest multiyear NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate.

April is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams.

Georgia Tech volleyball, under head coach Michelle Collier, earned a Public Recognition Award for the third-straight year and fifth time overall while Alan Drosky's women's cross country squad received the award for the second year in a row and fifth time overall. To be recognized, a program must rank in the top 10 percent within the sport nationally.

Other Zag programs honored: baseball, men's basketball, women's basketball, men's cross country, women's cross country, men's golf, men's soccer, women's tennis, men's track and women's track (indoor and outdoor track are combined).

Softball has been recognized seven times in the last eight years with the honor, while soccer received its first April public recognition award. "Our student-athletes' educations are our top priority and this honor would not be possible without the resources available to our team and the commitment of the Athletic Department staff to their success". The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance. The spring academic semester which just concluded was the 30th consecutive semester in which Wildcats student-athletes maintained a collective grade-point average above a 3.0, and the seventh straight semester in which the GPA for student-athletes was higher than a 3.2.

The Tech baseball program recorded a multi-year April of 995 - its highest ever.

The aggregate 2016-17 Academic Progress Rate data for all NCAA Division I institutions will be announced later this month. Nine teams earned a 100 percent GSR in the NCAA's 2017 report. Gymnastics and men's cross country both earned the accolade for the fourth year in a row.

Multi-year April scores for all Division I sports teams will be released by the NCAA May 23.
