The Central Moon Sighting Committees in India Pakistan and Bangladesh have issued appeals to Muslims in their respective countries to sight the crescent, Ramadan Moon or Ramzan Chand, Wednesday May 16, 2018 corresponding to 29th Shaban 1439.

Ramazan is a holy month for the world's almost 1.5 billion Muslims, many of whom practise the ritual of dawn-to-dusk fasting and prayers. They also try to avoid evil thoughts and deeds during the holy month. Scores of Islamic faithful usually commemorate the month-long period with dawn-to-dusk fasting and prayers.

The announcements came after religious authorities in Saudi Arabia failed to sight the crescent moon on Tuesday night, state media reported.

It was during Ramazan that the holy Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) started receiving revelations of the holy Quran.

Jamiat Ul Ulema Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Information Secretary Abdul Jalil Jan, when contacted by this scribe, expressed pleasure over same-day fasting throughout the country and praised the committee in this respect.
