Iran foreign minister sets off on tour to save nuclear deal

US President Donald Trump speaks during a Cabinet Meeting in the Cabinet Room of the White House in Washington DC US sanctions threat against Iran may hit SA hard

European Union leaders will try to forge a united response at a summit on Wednesday to US President Donald Trump's shock decisions on the Iran nuclear deal and trade tariffs. We are on the right path. Decisions taken must protect and secure the rights of Iran.

The announcement by Donald Trump that the United States would pull out of the agreement came with the restoration of sanctions against Tehran, including six individuals and three companies it claims are funnelling millions of dollars to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard's elite Quds Force. As a outcome, Europeans are no less despised and distrusted in Iranian decision-making circles these days.

In November 2004, the three countries of Germany, Britain and France signed the Paris agreement with Iran.

Hassan Rouhani, the moderate President of Iran, who negotiated the nuclear deal, might lose his standing in the country as hardliners pitch for more aggressive steps, including developing a nuclear weapon capability and more military engagement in the neighbourhood.

The deal's proponents say it is crucial to forestalling a nuclear Iran and preventing wider war in the Middle East.

Germany's minister for economic affairs, Peter Altmaier, said on Sunday that Berlin will try to "persuade the US government to change its behaviour".

National Security Adviser John Bolton speaks on a morning television show from the grounds of the White House, on May 9, 2018 in Washington, DC.

He has impressed everyone with his performances for Somerset and England representative teams. He has not played a first-class match since September.

But in an interview aired on the ABC programme "This Week", Bolton said, "That's not the policy of the administration".

French diplomats said they also wanted to assess Iran's intentions in sticking to the deal, but also to see how open it was to serious talks on other Western concerns, including its ballistic missile programme and regional activities. If it falls apart, he could become politically vulnerable for promoting the accord. Though interpreted by the Supreme Leader Khamenei as death to "policies and arrogance" the curses were thrown out to inflame Iranian public opinion.

But while Secretary of State Mike Pompeo talked up the prospect of renewed coordination with America's allies, another top aide reminded Europe its companies could face sanctions if they continue to do business with the Middle Eastern power.

Mohammad Ali Jafari, head of the Revolutionary Guards, said the country could not rely on the West.

Iran's foreign minister said he had a constructive meeting with EU Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini on Tuesday, and he was optimistic Iran's interests in the nuclear deal could still be preserved despite the US withdrawal from the pact.

"The Europeans have repeated on several occasions that they will not be able to resist United States sanctions". Pertinently, North Korea believes it can at least rely on China as a buffer against potential US aggression; Iran does not have a similar faith in Europe.

Trump's withdrawal from the deal has imperiled not only the accord, but the threat of sanctions could trickle down to European companies doing business with Iran.
