A 25-year-old man was arrested by Texas officials after it was discovered he posed as a 17-year-old in order to enroll in a high school and play on the basketball team.

The Dallas Morning News reports that Gilstrap-Portley was arrested for falsifying government records when one of his former coaches from when he was actually in high school recognized him playing high school basketball seven years later. He remembers making the announcement on the television news shortly after Hurricane Harvey, but says the school district is now looking into how it can make sure people don't take advantage of the system.

Sidney Bouvier Gilstrap-Portley allegedly posed as a school student for nine months across two schools exclusively so he could once again play high school basketball. High school coaches voted him offensive player of the year.

After nine months in the Dallas school system, one of Gilstrap-Portley's former coaches tipped off authorities.

Gilstrap-Portley remained below the radar for a while, until he secured a transfer to the Hillcrest High School.

"He took that as an opportunity to gain access to our schools", Dallas Independent School District spokeswoman Robyn Harris told the Dallas Morning News.

The far worse part of this story: Gilstrap-Portley, who is a father, was dating a 14-year old freshman girl. "I don't know what, how [the school] let this slip through the cracks". According to the daughter, she did not have a sexual relationship with Gilstrap-Portley, whom the mother never met but had spoken to on the phone.

"Even after reading some of their text messages he would say, 'Like, you know, I know all these girls are saying things to you - but I'm choosing you, '" the mom said. It is unclear if Gilstrap-Portley was attempting to get recruited by colleges as Richardson.

Gilstrap-Portley enrolled at Hillcrest, saying he was homeless after being displaced by the storm.

This mother said her daughter told her that the two had kissed and he had touched her "inappropriately".

'If it's happening at Hillcrest, then it could be happening somewhere else. He has been released on bond from the Dallas County Jail.
