A technology consulting firm has recently reported that Google is "preparing a petition for a rehearing en banc (a full-court review) of Oracle's recent appellate victory".

The report worked out the cost of the data by calculating that one GB of data costs between $3.60 and $4.50 and multiplying that by 10 million, the number of Australians who own Android phones.

To improve the Android system, Google has rolled out ML kits for users to check and give feedback on the Android P update. Even without a SIM card, the Wi-Fi feature of the Android phones would collect the cell tower data and transmit it to Google allowing it the necessary details of the user's whereabouts. Regulators found that telecom service customers are unknowingly paying for gigabytes of mobile data mined by the USA tech giant.

Vaile added that whilst Google is slowly getting better at not taking the proverbial, it is still a "mosaic" of permissions and rights that don't represent a clear-cut offering to consumers concerned about their privacy. Last year, Google officially announced Android Oreo following months of beta testing.

The move is part of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission's (ACCC) inquiry into digital platforms; an investigation that was set up after Australian media companies expressed concerns over the impact Google and Facebook are having on the advertising market, according to The Guardian.

Facebook is not the only company whose user data policies have captured the attention of a government agency.

A gig of data now costs about $3.60-$4.50 a month. The software company also claims that the search giant gets detailed information on people's searches and surfing from the Android devices.

Australian Privacy Foundation's head David Vaile noted that many mobile plans offer customers a few gigabytes of mobile data.

However, Oracle "experts" have found that Google is tracking users' location data, even if Google Maps is not open. "However inside is a hidden 'Android.Reputation.1" malware that is said to use the resources of the smartphone to carry out background tasks.

"Google has an intimate understanding of personal lives as they watch their user's seek the support of reproductive health services, engage in civic activities, or attend places of religious worship", Markey and Blumenthal write. However, at the time, the search giant assured that they would soon end such practices.
