Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov similarly said that Moscow remains committed to the Iran nuclear deal.

Earlier this week, German Chancellor Angela Merkel assured Iran's President Hassan Rouhani of full support of the nuclear deal provided that Tehran keeps on following its terms.

"We are seriously concerned about the decision of the USA administration to withdraw from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), thereby committing a significant violation of Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 2231", Lavrov said, referring to the deal by its official name.

Washington has been a major financial contributor to the IAEA's efforts to make sure that Iran does not develop nuclear weapons.

Tuesday, may 8, the President of the United States Donald trump announced his decision not to sign the decree on the continuation of the freezing of sanctions against Iran.

The other major powers involved in the deal - Britain, Germany, France, Russia and China - have promised to uphold the deal that has forced Iran to scale down its nuclear activities in return for sanctions relief.

In a press conference with the visiting German counterpart, Lavrov slammed the U.S. pull-out as a "significant" violation.
