Trump to hit Russian Federation with additional sanctions?

US to impose more sanctions on Russia after chemical attack in Syria, Haley says US Ambassador Haley Lays Out Three American Goals in Syria, including ending Chemical Weapons and ISIS

The United States also imposed sanctions on 24 Russians earlier this month over what USA intelligence agencies have said was interference in the US presidential election.

Trump tweeted "Mission Accomplished" on Saturday after U.S., French and British warplanes and ships launched more than 100 missiles almost unopposed by Syrian air defenses.

"We're not going to leave until we know we've accomplished those things", she said.

"I spoke to the president this morning and he said, "if the Syrian regime uses this poisonous gas again, the United States is locked and loaded", she said. Speaking on French television BFM and online site Mediapart, Macron stressed that the French diplomacy is able to talk with Iran, Russia and Turkey on one side and to the United States on the other side.

"We're evaluating, but nothing to announce right now", press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Monday afternoon.

The United States and European allies had discussed a sanctions package in the build up to last week's strikes against targets in Syria, with the American measures said to be further along in the planning process than Europe - where consensus among member states is needed.

Trump reportedly lashed out at aides after the U.S. expelled 60 Russian diplomats last month, and he is also said to have told aides not to speak publicly about tough measures against Russia that he approves because he does not want to upset Putin.

Russian Federation had earlier warned that it would equip Syria with better anti-air missile defense systems to take down any missile attacks in the future.

He also offered to play the role of intermediary between the United States and Russian Federation, whose relationship has been on edge over the chemical weapons attack and amid allegations that Russian Federation tried to interfere in the USA 2016 presidential election. The military said there were three targets: the Barzah chemical weapons research and development site in the Damascus area, a chemical weapons storage facility near Homs and a chemical weapons "bunker" a few miles from the second target.

That did not mean military strikes would continue.

Washington has said it had proof that Syrian forces conducted a deadly chemical weapons attack on April 7, although a visit by chemical weapons inspectors to the suspected attack site was delayed on Monday.

When asked on "Fox News Sunday" about "how our relationship with Russian Federation has changed this week", Haley said that relations are "very strained".

"The president is going to continue to be tough on [Russia]", she said.
