A judge considering how to handle records seized in an Federal Bureau of Investigation raid on President Donald Trump's personal attorney wrapped up a hearing into the matter Monday without making a final decision.

The Latest on efforts by President Donald Trump and his personal lawyer to stop criminal prosecutors from reviewing materials seized in raids before they have a chance to review them for potential breach of attorney-client privilege.

Prosecutors say they are investigating Cohen's personal business dealings.

The powerful attorneys are now in litigation over Avenatti's client, porn star Stormy Daniels hush money payment made to her in 2016, by Trump's attorney, to keep her quiet about her alleged affair with a not-yet-president Trump in 2006.

"It's meant to send the message that this is a very, very serious matter for her and she wants to make sure that the American people know that she is behind efforts to bring to light as much information and documents as possible".

The lawyer who represented President Trump in offering hush money to a porn star also represents one of the president's biggest cheerleaders: Fox News host Sean Hannity.

Daniels' attorney says Cohen orchestrated a protest against him in Florida, and then mocked the small turnout. Cohen has acknowledged paying Daniels $130,000 in 2016. Prosecutors have defended the search in part by saying that the investigation has shown that Cohen does not do much legal work and does not appear to have many clients.

"It nearly goes without saying, unfortunately", Harrison wrote, "that none of Mr. Cohen's clients want to be associated with the government raid on his home and law office, or want to be affiliated in any way with the proceedings here and the attendant media coverage". There was a lawyer at the Trump Organization who did have to sign off on nearly every significant deal - and that guy wasn't Cohen.

Cohen's hearing is set for 2 p.m. Monday in Manhattan.

The federal magistrate judge who approved the search warrant that led to Monday's raids found "probable cause to believe that Cohen's residence, office, safety deposit box, hotel room and electronic devices contained evidence, fruits and instrumentalities that specified federal crimes were committed", prosecutors said.

According to reports, Cohen's attorney revealed in court the mystery third client was Sean Hannity. She has ordered Cohen to be present in person, and a lawyer for Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, has also said she may be present.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Tom McKay asked a federal judge Monday to require Michael Cohen to reveal more information about his clients. Attorneys for Cohen say they want first crack.

Attorney Michael Cohen entered federal court in Manhattan on Monday for the afternoon proceeding.

The Justice Department wants a group of its own attorneys known as a "taint team" - those not working on the criminal case against Cohen - to examine the records.

"In the highly politicized, even fevered atmosphere that envelops this matter, it is simply unreasonable to expect that a team of prosecutors, even if not directly involved in the separate investigation of Mr. Cohen, could perform a privilege review in the manner necessary to safeguard the important interests of the President", Hendon wrote. He has denied wrongdoing.
