Sir Patrick Stewart lends voice to demands for another referendum

France naturalizes 120,000 new French citizens Call for Commonwealth to boost trade

Stewart said his alter egos, Star Trek's Jean-Luc Picard and the X-Men's Charles Xavier, were "excellent, admirable" individuals concerned about the well-being of all and "they would have voted Remain".

Speaking at a rally in Camden, north London this afternoon, Sir Patrick, 78, told a crowd of over 1,200 people that he "will not stand idly by" whilst Britain's "future is at stake".

However, both the Tories and Labour have ruled out the possibility of a referendum on the subject and time to change their minds is running out.

Organisers said about 1200 people were at the event, including MPs from all leading parties.

According to the BBC, the idea of the campaign is to unite anti-Brexit movements.

Actor Patrick Stewart, a supporter of the People's Vote campaign, said campaigners were not asking for a second referendum, but rather wanted "another chance to consider what the terms of this divorce are going to be". "If the public demand a People's Vote, politicians will fall in line".

"Since the 2016 referendum, there has been a concerted effort by many - including government - to shut down debate about Brexit and to tell us that we should simply trust ministers to get on with it because Brexit is an irreversible process".

The UK is due to leave the European Union in March 2019 following the referendum which saw Britain vote 51.9% to leave and 48.1% to remain. We are short on time, but we have people power on our side.

Cavaliers open playoffs at home Sunday against Indiana Pacers
Even without star center Joel Embiid (bone fracture, left eye) the Sixers finished the regular season on a 16-game winning streak. Those are just some of the questions lingering around the opening of the National Basketball Association playoffs this weekend.

Conservative MP Anna Soubry told the crowd the United Kingdom was about to embark on a course that would "make you and your grandchildren... less prosperous than you are now".

"It is not Charles Xavier standing here in..."

Stewart told the BBC he is supporting the People's Vote because the terms and conditions coming out of the negotiations are very different from those discussed during the 2016 referendum campaign.

Sir Patrick also said he was motivated by "history and emotion" to want to stay in the EU.

Chuka Umunna, MP for Lambeth, which had the highest Remain vote in the country, said: "We need more Conservative members of Parliament to be as courageous as Anna and many others who defied the whip and put their country before their party".

"I'm a war baby and growing up a lot of the world was not good. We're now trying to deliver on that mandate from the people".

Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson countered with a Star Trek allusion of his own, promising that Britain's departure from the European Union will allow it "to boldly go again to areas that perhaps we've neglected over the last 45 years".
