Officials say she was last seen wearing pink trousers and blue shirt.

Authorities said they do not know whether Evans has any connection to the Todd family.

The mother told police a man forced his way into the home and beat her, the chief added. She was officially entered as a missing person around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The Charleston Police Department also set up a 24-hour tip line in order to gather information on sightings of Evans.

Heidi Renae Todd of Johns Island, S.C. - who disappeared from her family's home early Tuesday afternoon - was found two states away late Wednesday, multiple law enforcement sources confirmed to this news site.

A mother of five, Heidi's mother was in "reasonably fair condition under the circumstances" and was expected to undergo surgery, the mayor said, according to that report. A neighbor saw the man in the area a few days ago.

Police say the person of interest in her disappearance has facial tattoos, describing them as a lightning bolt and a flame.

Two other children were found in the home unharmed, the mayor said.

WTOC television station reported that officials were looking for the girl until about 3 a.m. Crews were seen searching a nearby lake, the television station reported. The police chief said the search is expanding to retention ponds in the immediate area. The other children were unhurt, police say.

Tecklenburg said everything is being done to find out what happened to the child.

A spokesperson for the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division said Wednesday morning an Amber Alert has not been issued because they do not have enough information on the adult that could be with her. "She did not invite anyone into her residence", Taylor said.
