"I've never used body-enhancing drugs so I don't think about hiding it". He agreed to leave the Olympic village - the JOC would not disclose his whereabouts - and will also be indefinitely suspended from all International Skating Union competitions.

A statement released by The Court of Arbitration for Sport on Tuesday said that the speedskater had "accepted on a voluntary basis to be provisionally suspended and to leave the Olympic Village".

"I have never considered doping", he said in the statement.

Saito, 21, said he was "extremely shocked" by the positive test and denied taking a banned substance. His revelations, while lacking hard evidence like positive doping tests, had dozens of Russian top athletes stripped of their medals and results won during the 2014 Winter games in Sochi.

"As for the test results this time, the only possibility I can think of is that I accidentally and unconsciously put a banned substance in my mouth", he added.

No results from the Pyeongchang Games have been affected by Saito's suspension, and according to the Olympic website, the men's Japanese 5,000-meter relay team has qualified for Final B (to determine placement) on February 22.

The skater was originally expected to compete in a competition Wednesday before testing positive for the acetazolamide.

Saito was summoned before the CAS tribunal on Monday following the positive test for acetalozamide, a medication used to treat complaints ranging from epilepsy to heart failure. "That is why we had to go with the provisional measure".

"Final decisions rendered by the CAS (Anti-Doping Division) may be appealed before the CAS ad hoc Division in Pyeongchang or before the CAS in Lausanne after the end of the Olympic Winter Games".

Last month, however, sprint canoeist Yasuhiro Suzuki admitted to spiking a rival's drink with an anabolic steroid to scuttle his Olympic dream, and was banned for eight years.
