During a visit from his twin brother Giancarlo Delgado Herrera, Jheferson allegedly drugged him before stealing his clothes and simply walking out the door.

No one had ever escaped from the prison before.

Alexander Delgado Herrera was serving a 16-year sentence for child sexual abuse and robbery in a Peruvian prison north of Lima when he decided to make his escape.

Alexander Delgado Herrera was finally arrested in the port city of Callao after he escaped a year ago. The twin brother was investigated but authorities dropped charges after they found out he had nothing to do with his escape.

Peruvian authorities finally caught up with Herrera on February 13, according to a statement from the Ministry of the Interior.

Authorities were able to confirm that Alexander had left his brother in his place when they took Giancarlo's fingerprints. According to Peru's official Interior Ministry Twitter account, Alexander had been on the run since January 10.

Speaking to local media after his arrest, Alexander Delgado said he used the ruse to escape "because I was desperate to see my mother".

The Ministry of the Interior had previously offered a reward of US$6,200) for information leading to Delgado's capture.

According to reports, Alexander tried to escape once again when he spotted authorities but he was quickly arrested. Alexander was serving his sentence at Piedras Gordas prison, which is located two hours from the Peruvian capital Lima.

He will now be moved to a high-security prison, the BBC reported.

He was released and never charged.
