Who Is Yuna Kim? The 2018 Olympics Opening Ceremony Torch Lighter Is A Full-Fledged Champion The Order Of Countries At The 2018 Olympics Opening Ceremony Makes Sense

Vice President Mike Pence said Saturday evening there is "no daylight" between the USA and South Korea, despite their different approaches to engagement with North Korea at the Pyeongchang Olympic Winter Games.

Leaving South Korea without any interaction with North Korea's high-level delegates to the PyeongChang Winter Olympics, Pence said he would oppose talks between the two Koreas until the North agreed to open negotiations on ending its nuclear program, according to the AP.

If the encounter took place, it would be the first between Kim and a South Korean president, and the first North-South summit on the peninsula since 2007. The North and the United States were also holding a series of high-level talks on Pyongyang's nuclear and missile programmes.

At the 2003 University Games in Taegu, accusations that local right-wing groups had "ransacked" bedrooms and stolen underwear at the North Korean delegation's hotel prompted the cheerleaders to down pom-poms in protest.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in's office says his lunch meeting with senior North Korean officials including leader Kim Jong Un's sister has ended.

Kim, a national idol in South Korea, took the flame from two members of the joint Korean women's hockey team - Chung Su Hyon of North Korea and Park Jong-ah of South Korea at the top of a flight of 120 stairs.

Kim Yo-jong arrived in South Korea on Friday with Kim Yong-nam, the North's nominal head of state, for the Games opening ceremony in Pyeongchang. "It will be a tough meeting for Mr Moon".

South Korea's principal opposition party, the Liberty Korea Party, was not impressed. But North Korea's record on human rights and the growing threat from its nuclear weapons program appeared out of mind. The senior USA official said Pence was not trying to avoid the North Korean officials but rather ignore them.

Kim Yo Jong and Kim Yong Nam are on an unprecedented visit to South Korea amid abrupt reconciliation mood between the rival Koreas for the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.

The Olympics were the biggest show in TV, and NBC aims to keep it that way as the Games continue to February 25.

Pence's staff insists the vice president would have met with the North Korean officials if the North Korean officials were interested in meeting.

One protester, who gave her name only as Laila, told CNN she was angry at President Moon.

Moon's desire to engage North Korea was in contrast to the stand of his USA ally. North Korea has jumped at the opportunity.

The Korean women's hockey team, the first in Olympic history to combine players from North and South, took the ice Saturday night for their debut game in front of a raucous, sellout crowd on another historic night mixing sports and politics on an worldwide stage. "The summit with Moon is the only way to present a united front with South Korea and therefore avoid worldwide sanctions".

The recent detente, anchored by South Korea's hosting of the Winter Olympic Games that began on Friday, came despite an acceleration in the North's weapons programmes past year and pressure from Seoul's allies in Washington. "At this time we can not confirm (a cyberattack)", he said.

"There were some issues that affected some of our non-critical systems last night for a few hours", Sung told reporters, without detailing what the issues specifically were.

"The US will not allow the propaganda charade by the North Korean regime to go unchallenged on the world stage", Pence tweeted on Saturday.

South Korea has been using the Pyeongchang Games to break the ice with the reclusive North, which has been trading nuclear threats with the United States recently.
