Eric Schneiderman filed the civil rights suit against the Weinstein Company, claiming it repeatedly broke NY law by failing to protect its employees from pervasive sexual harassment, intimidation and discrimination.

In the lawsuit, Eric Schneiderman says any future sale of The Weinstein Company must ensure that victims are compensated, future employees are protected, and that neither Harvey nor Bob Weinstein benefits from the sale.

Schneiderman's lawsuit alleges numerous instances of alleged harassment by Weinstein, including claims that multiple groups of Weinstein Company employees were responsible for facilitating Harvey's sexual encounters. He denies having non-consensual sex.

In December 2017 six women also filed a lawsuit against Harvey Weinstein and his former businesses in a proposed class action in the Southern District of NY. The standoff occurred because the Weinstein Company board rejected a settlement offer on Wednesday that potentially left them open to liability over sexual harassment claims against the company, according to an individual with knowledge of the talks.

Allegations first surfaced in October after an investigative report by the New York Times.
