Volkswagen launches new Arteon sedan

2019 VW Arteon Home Auto Shows 2019 VW Arteon says goodbye to the CC By Marc Carter
Doris Mccormick | 10 February, 2018, 02:46

"The Arteon combines the design elements of a traditional sports auto with the elegance and space of a fastback", says Klaus Bischoff, head of design for the Volkswagen brand. For the buyer with a sense of style, VW offered the CC, and that now gives way to the 2019 Arteon, a vehicle that poses a challenge to the Audi A5 Sportback.

It's a tricky time for sedans, and the Arteon is making its own niche as a premium offering that is larger and nicer than the Passat midsize sedan, but not quite as nice as the Audi A5. It has the CC's fastback profile that gives the Arteon a unique shape outside the luxury space. Compared to the CC, Arteon features a more cab-backward design.

With the recent launches of the all-new Atlas and completely redesigned Tiguan, Volkswagen has made it clear it is shifting direction to catch up with the massive explosion of SUV and CUV sales. Arteon's rear features LED taillights, rear decklid spoiler and two trapezoidal exhaust tips.

Inside, the Arteon has a Teutonically-refined interior with simplicity and function defining its style. The 2019 Arteon comes standard with keyless access and push-button start, 3-zone Climatronic automatic climate control, and an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

2019 VW Arteon

Available on the VW Arteon is the company's Digital Cockpit, which allows key driving data and navigation information to be displayed front-center for the driver. Other features-such as ventilated seats, a massaging driver's seat (surely to make passengers jealous), real Nappa leather, heated rear seats, and a panoramic sunroof-are available if you're willing to be parted from some extra cash. It packs 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, Front Assist, DCC adaptive damping, full LED headlights, and Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Traffic Alert.

Pricing for the 2019 Arteon was not released.

Powering the 2019 Arteon is VW's well-used 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, outputting 268 horsepower (200 kW). It will power the front wheels through a standard eight-speed automatic transmission and 4Motion all-wheel drive will be optional with trim levels: SE, SEL, and SEL Premium.

To address a lingering reputation for costly maintenance, VW will offer Arteon with a standard six-year/72,000-mile People First Warranty.
