Boston Herald pulls Brady hold-out article over questions about source

Boston Radio Host Suspended For Offensive Impression Boston Herald pulls Brady hold-out article over questions about source

A column by Ron Borges in today's Herald regarding Patriot Tom Brady's salary discussions was based on information which proved to be false.

On Thursday night, the Herald's Ron Borges published a story asserting Tom Brady was prepared to hold out if he didn't get paid like 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, who served as Brady's backup for half of last season.

"The dominoes are about to continue their Foxboro free fall".

This is not the first time Borges has been handed down a suspension from a Boston-based publication.

It's only a matter of time before Logan Paul is back to make a tearful apology now that his income stream has been cut off. YouTube has suspended advertising on video blogger Logan Paul's channels owing to his "pattern of behaviour".

Garoppolo signed a five-year deal worth $137.5 million to remain the quarterback in San Francisco. While Borges didn't credit Sando, a disclaimer at the end of his column said, "Material from personal interviews, wire services, other beat writers, and league and team sources was used in this report'".

"Somebody tweeted Ron Borges" phone number and I just picked it up and for some reason I just thought, "Hey, I'll text him and say I'm Don Yee.' And he just went with it for some reason", WEEI caller "Nick in Boston" said.

Pranks like this happen to reporters, but sticking to journalistic principles, especially on a big story like this, would have prevented something like this from running. Sports Boston's Tom Curran called the report "off the reservation" and it appears his initial assessment was spot on. Nick called into Kirk & Callahan this morning, and went into detail just how easy it was to trick Borges into running this column. It's no longer available online.

The Herald, which has a history of retracting and apologizing for a false report regarding the Patriots, has already pulled the story from its website.
