Last year's Women's March rallied 4.2 million protesters across the country in more than 600 cities, making it the largest single-day demonstration in modern United States history.

"Beautiful weather all over our great country, a ideal day for all Women to March", Trump wrote.

"Get out there now to celebrate the historic milestones and unprecedented economic success and wealth creation that has taken place over the last 12 months", he wrote.

Jordan said turnout at Saturday's protests was a lot lower compared to a year ago, when millions of people had gathered in cities around the US.

For 2018, marches and rallies are being held in cities across the country throughout the weekend.

Anti-Trump sentiments were prominent among the placards, and so were pro-immigrant messages and those in favour of women's rights, including one reading "Girls just want to have fun-damental rights".

Marchers, many in bright pink cat-eared "pussy" hats, held signs attacking Trump.

"Black Lives Matter Morristown serves our community as an educational resource to open minds to the incessant injustice faced by our men, women and children, despite our meaningful and often overlooked contributions to society in this country that we all dearly love".

Across the country, marchers were overwhelmingly white, although organizers said they made stronger efforts this year to connect with communities of color and pushed to register voters.

Attractive weather all over our great country, a flawless day for all Women to March.

Outside Washington, one of the biggest demonstrations on Saturday unfolded in NY.

"I think (our voices) are getting heard louder and louder every day because the people at the grassroots are now talking to the people at the water cooler or the people on the bus", Geyer said. This weekend, protesters are marching in solidarity with DACA recipients, demanding the federal government restore protections to shield them from the threat of deportation. "This year, I feel like I'm in it for the long haul".

"Last year, there was a feeling of fear and objection to the election", Elizabeth Pleva told ABC News, while waiting for the march to commence on Manhattan's Upper West Side.

Many of her relationships, both personal and professional, had power dynamics "so off" that she let herself be "degraded", she said.

The march, which was attended by 400,000 people past year, will take place again this Saturday, from 11 a.m.to 3 p.m., starting at 72nd Street and Central Park West.

One thing that hasn't changed, organizers say, is the anger that was on display a year ago.

"We're not going to create change until we change our representation in the government", said Wruble of March On, which is keen to ensure more liberal women win seats in Republican-led districts. The event, at Sam Boyd Stadium, will not include a march, but will host speakers and performers who will call for voter registration and continued activism.

"There are a record number of women running for local office and then also for state and governorship and there are competitive Senate races".

New Jersey's first lady Tammy Murphy told a crowd of thousands at a Women's March event in Morristown that she had been sexually assaulted while in college.

"It created this massive groundswell of everyday people who wouldn't normally be political to get involved", said Geyer.
