In a Tweet on Wednesday, Student Leader Shehla Rashid Posted, a "missing poster" of research scholar Mukul Jain.

Mukul was last seen leaving the campus at around 12.30 pm from the East Gate of JNU, police said. "We will offer all kind of assistance needed (to trace him)", Barik said.

Mukul Jain, who is pursuing his research under a guide from IGNOU and a co-guide from JNU's School of Life Sciences, was last seen on Monday.

Photographs of Mukul Jain were circulated on social media, in an attempt to help locate the youth, although Najeeb Ahmed is still yet to be found after almost 2 years.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Jain, a resident of Ghaziabad, was dating a fellow student from college.

On Monday, when he did not reach his house, the family approached JNU authorities on Tuesday morning. He also informed that till now, no foul play has been suspected in his disappearance.

A missing report was registered on the evening of January 8.

Jain was not a regular student of JNU and it is unlikely that he had a problem with someone, said a senior police officer.

Jain's friends say that he had gone to laboratory number 408 with a laptop and was scanning through some books when he received a call from someone and left in a hurry, leaving the laptop and the phone on the desk. JNU administration said that Jain was not a registered student of the varsity.

Previously, a first-year student of JNU Najeeb Ahmed had gone missing after a brawl with Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) members in October 2016.
