Bannon's remarks about the Russian Federation investigation and the president's children made headlines last week amid heightened interest in Michael Wolff's book Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House.

"I'm proud of what the Breitbart team has accomplished in so short a period of time in building out a world-class news platform", Bannon said in a statement carried on Breitbart's website.

Later Tuesday, Bannon tweeted that Breitbart "has come along way and has really just begun its mission".

Mr Trump has also denied all of the book's claims, including the claim he retreats to his room at 6:30pm each day to eat cheeseburgers and watch TV. "I am confident in everything that is in this book", he said.

Michael Wolff, who wrote "Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House", was asked by Katy Tur of MSNBC whether Donald Trump was sexist and racist. "To reiterate, those comments were not aimed at Don Jr".

Despite being packed with political dynamite, a new book on Donald Trump won't, on its own, dislodge a president who is totally unfit to hold such a vital office.

President Donald Trump has publicly lashed out at Steve Bannon over the comments, calling him "sloppy Steve" and saying that he "cried when he got fired and begged for his job".

"I've had this specific discussion with Steve Bannon, who thought not", said Wolff.

The book portrays a Trump campaign in disarray, and an administration in upheaval, during Trump's early months in office. He issued a statement praising the president's eldest son and says he regrets not having released it sooner.

Bannon and Breitbart will work together on a smooth and orderly transition, the news site added.
